Here it is.... the photo of my face!

Yup, that’s right I don’t like having my photo taken either.

Getting your portrait done …it feels weird, right?

I’m always thinking, “Where do my feet go?!”, “Do I look casual and relaxed?” While ever cell in my body is screaming, “Can we just be done with this so I can go hug a puppy?”

You do this too, I know you do. That’s how I know you are in the right place. I’ve got you!

I know how to get you comfy and natural in front of the camera.  I’ve been doing this photography thing for a while and, I kinda love it.

Award-Winning Photographer • local expert • Professional Creative Instigator

When I was eight people asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, I already knew.

Yes, I am one of those people.  I’ve always been the person with a camera in my hand, the one everyone said had “the eye.”  Photography never felt like a hobby to me.  It felt weird when I didn’t have my camera with me.  Naturally, the step after spending most of high school in the darkroom was to get a degree in photography and learn as much as I could about the Art of Photographic Illustration at RIT.  I thought I’d become the next Martha Stewart style magazine photographer, photographing beautiful homes, unusual collections and perfectly styled tablescapes , living the dream in a large city. (This was before Martha went to jail and we found out all the things.)

But Boston didn’t fit me the way I expected it to, it kinda chewed me up and spit me out. The best job I could find was working for a school photo company, which I hated. My Dad would say, ” Do worry, that’s how Ansel Adams got stared, photographing school children!”  I did manage to find a bright spot working there, I photographed my very first wedding. Somewhere between swapping medium format film backs behind the last pew of a church and watching so much joy unfold in front of me, everything clicked. (sorry, not sorry)  I realized I didn’t just love photography. I loved photographing all the emotion, the movement, the energy, the in between moments you can never recreate twice. So I embraced it.

After so many years of dreaming and encouragement from those closest to me, it happened. I was a full-time, independent, professional photographer.

Now I live in an 1800s home in Burlington with my husband and our rescue mutts. When I’m not chasing light with my camera in my hand, you can usually find us cooking something yummy, hiking and camping with our dogs, or passenger princess to some live music in Vermont or New England.

That was a long elevator ride and in case you are wondering, I figured out a way to photograph beautiful homes and tablescapes too.

This is going to sound weird
coming from a portrait & wedding photographer...

Yes, your photos are important. But they are not the reason we are all together.

The best photo isn’t about perfection…it’s about presence.

My job is to be the almost invisible, capable presence in the room so that you never have to think about the camera. So you can actually be there, in your moment.

What I Believe

The Way I Work

PRESENCE OVER PERFECTION

With almost two decades of wedding experience I know how meaningful the little things are.

YOU SHOULD FEEL AT EASE

My process is relaxed and intuitive. Most people who said they hate being photographed tell me afterward it was easy and fun.

EVERY DETAIL MATTERS

From planning calls to the final edited image,  I truly care about you and your full experience, not just the photos in your collection.

NO SURPRISES

Well… maybe this should say, Only Good Surprises. Expect clear communication, honest pricing, and no hidden fees. You know what you’re getting from day one.

VERMONT IS HOME

I am so lucky to call Vermont my home. Over the years I have gotten to know the light, its seasons, its hidden spots. That local depth shows up in every gallery.

YOU ARE ALWAYS WELCOME

ICYMI:

What is a
Professional Creative Instigator?

Things I’ve said to earn that self proclaimed title….

  • Do you want to get in the dinghy?
  • Turn that way so it catches the wind!
  • Can you pick up that sheet of ice?
  • You’ve got another set of dry clothes with you, right? ( I have a dog towel you can use)
  • Stop the car, look at that light!! You need that photo.

Yes, there is a time and place for something a little off the trail. If you are ready for it, I’m all in. Do you have any fun photo session ideas?

Most who reach out have no plan yet and that’s ok! Tell me what your must haves are in your package and we’ll make a plan together.
